Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind to defend the Assam Accord in SC
Guwahati/3rd of May’2017 (Prag News Desk): The Assam Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind affirmed to defend the Assam Accord against the opposition in the Supreme Court. The declaration came a day after their opposition to fix a new-cut off year in Assam.
President Qari Mohammed Usman Mansiirpuri along with General Secretary Maulana Mehmood Madani and Assam Jamiat President Maulana Baruddin Ajmal addressed a meeting firmly proposing that the cut off year 1971 should shift to 1951 as the base year. Here, they challenged the validity of the Assam Accord and stated that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be updated.
This is a pledge to safeguard the one-third population of Assam, the Assam Jamiat have decided to support the Assam Accord and the Section 6A of the Citizenship Act 1955 however, standing against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.
Assam at the moment have geared up against filtering border infiltration and with the Centre’s assurance to safeguard the spirit of Assam Accord, it will be likely for Supreme Court to stand by the Accord and approve the changes.
