Guwahati/ 12th May’2017(Prag News Desk): The much publicized GST bill 2017 gets the green-go ensuring a progressive taxation infrastructure in a consumer state like Assam.
The Assam Assembly passed the Assam Goods and Services Tax Bill 2017 on Thursday will may way to the formation of a uniform tax regime for goods across the nation.
Debating during the passing of the GST Bill, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, ““The GST is all about tax reform and in consonance with the country’s federal structure. It’s a win-win situation for both the Centre and the State Government. Similarly, both consumers and traders will gain from it. It has effectively put an end to multiple taxation at various source and transportation levels. It will also ensure transparency and check corruption to a great extent,”.
Adding on, the finance minister that the new avenue of the GST Bill would abolish the Srirampur and Buxirhat check gates this year. Also, the State Government was abolishing five taxes, including entry tax, VAT and amusement tax for facilitating the GST, while Centre has amended removal of the seven taxes.
“Assam was the major exporter of tea and the State Government will urge the Centre to relax taxation”-he added
Legislator and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi welcoming the GST Bill 2017 stating that taxation should be progressive with the country’s federal structure.
