Payback to the people of Assam, PMUY launched in Assam.
Guwahati/ 13th May’2017 (Prag News Desk): The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched at Dibrugarh by MoS (i/c) for Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The PMUY was a due pay-back as Assam is one of the prime fueling force in the country, for the country.
MoS for Railways Rajen Gohain and a host of dignitaries were present as Mr Pradhan handed over LPG connection papers to 15 women from BPL families.
Mr Pradhan mentioned that the implementation of PMUY took its time as there were technical glitches and also, the absence of Aadhar cards in the state was among the problems for linking beneficiaries for the scheme.
He also assured that the Centre will release the dues of Rs. 6320 crores, royalty payment to Assam. About 30 lakh households will be covered under the PMUY in Assam in two years and the procedures for enrolling the beneficiaries put under immediate operational action.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. The scheme benefits with five crore LPG connections to be provided to BPL families with a support of Rs 1600 per connection in three years. The PMUY scheme visions women’s empowerment, especially in rural India.
So far, Rs 8000 crore has been allocated by the Centre towards the implementation of the scheme and identification of the BPL families is done through Socio Economic Caste Census Data and here in Assam, the SECC population is 30 lakhs.
