Crime on a rise at the Assam-Meghalaya border, an indication to possible human-trafficking.
Guwahati/ 15th June’2017 (Prag News Desk): Just a day after one six-year old was rescued at the Assam-Meghalaya border, similar incident came into light with Shubhomita Roy Choudhury- a 3 year old who was abducted from the campus of Assam University, rescued and found by Assam Police on Thursday.
This raises an alarm as cross-border trafficking have had a consistent past in the State and her immediate neighbor, Meghalaya. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2016 statistics, 4 per cent cases of procuration of minor girls pertain to the two states.
According to the stats provided by highly-confidential sources, nearly 40 percent of the crimes in Assam runs on a full-fledged cross-border human trafficking syndicate.
The abduction of four year old Subhomitra is the third case of the kind that came under the scanner. Earlier this week, the abduction of five year old who was kidnapped at Dong-khong in North Garo Hills/. Incidentally, this area falls bordering Goalpara in Assam.
As offcials are unable to trace the five year old, it is to be mentioned that most the abduction are often affirmed by one Garo organization-whose real identity is still lays under the sheets and demands immendiate attention of the States together.
