The State celebrates International Yoga Day with the Nation
Guwahati/ 21st June’2017 (Prag News Desk): CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the people of Assam commemorates 3rd International Yoga Day at Nalbari.
Gracing the occasion at the Government Gurdon HS School playground, Nalbari; CM Sonowal had a brief interaction with the yoga enthusiasts and addressed the people of the State.
“Yoga helps immensely to shun away negativity and to acquire positive attitudes to do something meaningful in life”- said CM Sonowal in the introductory speech at the occasion followed by a brief yoga session in the premise.
He also stressed that yoga is a practice that must be inculcated as an essential way of life and more people must adapt yoga in their daily lives, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Yoga implies disciplining of intellect, mind, emotions and thus the people of the State should embrace and practice it as part of their daily lives.
Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide on 21 June since its inception in 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared it a global practice on 11 December 2014.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made yoga an omnipresent celebration on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere which also shares special significance in many parts of the world-that is 21st of June.
This year, PM Modi celebrated the International Yoga Day adorning a hand-woven “Gamosa” as an appreciation to the Silk weavers of Assam.
