Human trafficking on a rise in the State.
Guwahati/ 24th June’2017 (Prag News Desk): A teenager was recused on Wednesday.
The girl from Jamuani village of Bedeti under Behali police station in Biswanath district, was allegedly sold to a rich family of Ganga near Itanagar.
Belonging to a poor family, the girl was brought in one Shanti who sold her later. She managed to flee from the assigned place and reached Itanagar.
She was then found and rescued by one Chandan Saikia and later, she was handed over to the Itanagar police station.
This incident has again edged on the ongoing trafficking of poverty-stricken girls from interior places of the district to the neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and even Bangladesh.
According to information collected and compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau from all the states and Union territories in 2015, 6,877 cases of human trafficking were reported. Of this, 1,539 cases were reported from the northeastern states.
Assam topped the chart followed by West Bengal. 1,552 persons were arrested in Assam last year, chargesheets were filed in 365 cases against 424 accused, of whom eight were convicted.
