Flood erosion displaced four thousand people in Assam
Guwahati/ 29th June’2017 (Prag News Desk): Flood erosion in Assam has become one of the greatest tragedy created by deluge.
Nearly one lakh people in many districts are displaced and eight districts surrounded by five rivers is flowing above the danger level.
Flood hits Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Golaghat, Sivasagar and Sonitpur and has affected over 267 villages. Karimganj district hit the worst by flood. Around 1,746 hectares of land have been submerged by deluge.
About 6 relief camps including 76 relief distribution were provided by the State officials to provide food for flood affected people around the state, 4,320 people are rescued so far.
Incidentally, the revenue department has released funds to all the districts. Here, the Chief Minister announced that timely payment of ex gratia amount to families of flood victims within 48 hours must be exercised.
The Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) is a model that supports initiating series of developmental activities in order to improve the economy, development and creates employment in the state.
CM Sonowal has already approved three entry points for execution of CMSGUY programme under which tractors will be distributed in the first phase to each revenue village of the State.
In Karimganj district, roads were badly damaged by flood, while heavy soil erosion has been reported in the Udalguri region.
