IIT Kharagpur develop new technology to keep coconut water fresh for months


Guwahati/ 12th August’2017 (Prag News Desk): Scientists of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have developed a new technique to keep coconut water fresh for months. Sankha Karmakar team and professor Sirshendu De of Chemical Engineering Department of IIT Kharagpur have developed the new technique. The new technique used membrane-based separation process which separates bacteria content. Naturally coconut water has a shelf life of only 24 hours but the new technique enhanced shelf life of coconut water to around 18 weeks without any use of preservatives. It can be stored for 18 weeks under normal refrigeration, claimed by the IIT scientists. Post-research coconut water was tasted by three professors of chemical department, 10 Phd scholars and by two children. They tasted in terms of taste, colour and acceptability and how much it will be safe for drinking for longer days.
