BharatNet project to connect 2.5 gram panchayats with broadband
Guwahati/9th September’2017 (Prag News Desk): The central government taking an initiative to provide broadband services to gram panchayats said Communications Minister Manoj Sinha on Friday. The project to provide broadband service will include 1 lakh gram panchayats by end of this year. The initiative to include under the BharatNet project will connect almost 2.5 gram panchayats across the country at the speed of 100 Mbps, said central government. In the first phase of the BharatNet Project, around one lakh gram panchayats will be broadband enable which will be connected through underground Optical Fibre Cable, source added. The project will be constructs under the collaboration of Punjab National Bank and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd as the service will be available across 10 States in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. Later on the service to be expands in the northern and eastern States.
