Singapore gets first woman President
Guwahati/13th September’2017 (Prag News Desk): Halimah Yacob became the first ever woman President of Singapore on Wednesday. She was the only candidate who met the requirement for the presidential election. A 63-year-old Muslim Yacob a daughter of a Muslim Indian-origin father and a Malay mother. Yacob to take oath on Thursday as the oath ceremony to be held at presidential residence and office in Istana. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will also be present in the oath taking ceremony. Among the three potential candidates, Yacob successfully qualified for the presidential post. On the other hand, Farid Khan and Mohamed Salleh Marican who was a businessman cannot complete the minimum requirement. Yacob spoke outside the People’s Association building that every Singaporean need to stand together shoulder to shoulder as we have lot to go to reach the peak. She delivered the speech in both Malay and English. I am a President for everyone, Yacob added in her speech.
