Guwahati/ 17th September’2017 (Prag News Desk): In association with directorate of Environment and Department of Forests World Ozone Day was observed in GP Women’s College,Manipur on Saturday .
Minister Forests and Environment, Horticulture and Soil Conservation ,Thounaojam Shyamkumar was also seen taking part in the celebration.
While speaking on the occasion, Shyamkumar said ,”we need to plant more trees to safeguard the planet from harmful greenhouse effect and reduce the use of chemicals, which are responsible for the depletion of ozone layer”.
According to Prof N Rajmuhon Singh of Manipur University, Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), which is commonly used in refrigerator, airconditioners, cosmetics etc. is one of the prime sources of the depletion of ozone layer.
“To overcome the problem, the Montreal Protocol was signed which was aimed at reducing the rapid use of CFC in order to protect the environment,” he added.
