“Gay Marriage not crime”- Siddhartha Bhattacharya
Guwahati/ 22nd September (Prag News Desk):Controversial Section 377 of the Indian Penal Court re-criminalized gay sex activities defining homosexuality as unnatural in the year 2013 where, BJP president Rajnath Singh endorsed the judgment.
Holding on to the values of the Saffron party, Rajnath Singh stated that homosexuality is an unnatural act and must not be allowed to exist in the society.
However, Siddhartha Bhattacharya ex-party president of the state BJP and MLA from Guwahati East constituency expressed his support for the LGBTQ communites ruling out from the general categories of “abnormality” and “other”.
In the ‘Northeast Regional MSM (Men who have sex with men) Peer Conference’ that was organized by The Humsafar Trust, Bhattacharya remarked that Section 377 is archaic in nature and it propagates the Victorian law.
Siddhartha Bhattacharya affirmed the existence of of Hindu organizations who despise and ignore LGBTQ issues on religious beliefs. He stated that the effort to decriminalize the same gender sex is BJP’s initiative. He further added that the advent of Victorian Law brought in the sexual diversion where homosexuality became a crime and yet again mentioned the usuals support case with “Kamasutra” and Khajuraho.
“I strongly believe the fact that if a man has an alternative way of expressing his urges and desires, it doesn’t make him deviant or abnormal.He also added that sweeping the topic of LGBTQ rights under the carpet will only harm the society and hopes that the future will hold some good news for gay rights as the society is evolving towards a positive side gradually.”
