Odisha Government to preserve Bhupen Da’s Sahityarathi
Guwahati/ 1st of November’2017 (Prag News Desk):Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released an amount of 50 lakh for the renovation of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa in Sambalpur. In a monumental meeting with the Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Chief Minister’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami in Bhubaneshwar, the decision was made along with the suggestibility of purchase of the house where Dr. Bhupen Hazarika created music.
The idea is to transform the same into a cultural center and mainstream the place where the maestro made some of his best creations.
The decision is welcoming as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be visiting Odisha in December for a tabled discussion with CM Patnaik to encourage a plan of action to transform Sahityarathi. Incidentally, the historical house was ordered to be demolished for a road construction project.
Speaking to Prag News, CM Patnaik stated that conservation is the key and he holds regards for Sahityarathi thus the government has initiated to convert the house into a cultural complex. The Odisha government thus conferred 50 lakh for the restoration of the house.
Dr Hazarika stayed in the house at 77 Golf Course Road, Tollygunge for decades since the middle of the 1950s. But the house was sold off when he was sick and shifted his base to Mumbai.
