Kirkuk: Militants of Islamic State killed at least 10 Iraq policemen and wounded four during an overnight attack on a guard post near the city of Kirkuk.
According to police sources, the attackers clashed for two hours with police stationed at a village in the town of Rashad.
The militants destroyed three police vehicles and used roadside bombs to stop police from reaching the posts.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Islamic State militants are active in that area, and according to a security source, they were involved.
On the other hand, at least three Iraqi soldiers were killed, and one was wounded on Sunday when an army checkpoint southeast of the Iraqi city Mosul was attacked by a gunman.
Remnants of the group switched to hit-and-run attacks against governments forces in different parts of Iraq despite the defeat of the Islamic State militant group in 2017.
