14 children rescued from Sikkim by Chirang Police

Chirang: In another case of child trafficking, Chirang police rescued 14 children from Sikkim, police said.

Reportedly, out of the 14 children, eight are girls, and the four are boys. Following the rescue operation, the Chirang police brought the 14 children to Assam from Gangtok.

A police report said that the children were rescued from different hotels, restaurants and domestic houses; they were engaged as child labourer’s in Gangtok.

Recently, on July 23, Chirang Police rescued 42 children from the India-Bhutan border in Chirang. The police arrested one, identified as Krishna Yogi.

Upon interrogation, Krishna Yogi revealed 14 children still serving in various places of Sikkim as child labours.

Deputy Superintendent of Assam police, Chirang district, Laba Kumar Deka, said, “Krishna Kumar revealed at least 14 children were still in Sikkim, they were engaged as child labours in various places of Sikkim.”

“Based on his input, through a search operation, a Chirang Police team rescued the Children from Sikkim.” Added.

As per a report, the children belong to the economically weaker section in the Chirang district of Western Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Region.

Notably, cases of human trafficking are increasing speedily in the state. It had been reported that children had been trafficked to different places of the country by the traffickers, who trafficked the children by luring them of high-paying jobs and other work.
