‌At around 9.30 am when children and their parents gathered at Dhemaji College ground for Independence Day parade, a bomb went off. According to the police the bomb was planted near the college-gate and triggered by a remote-controlled device. The bomb exploded when students and teachers of various schools passed through the gate.

‌In July 2014, a district court in Assam convicted six people and acquitted eight others. The United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA had taken the responsibility for the attack and later apologized for targetting the school children. The blast led to a massive decline in public sympathy for Assam.
