The unending woes of the largest river island in the world.


Guwahati/March 2, (Monroe Gogoi/Prag News Desk): The onset of monsoon is just weeks away and the largest river island in the world, Majuli is yet far from being prepared against soil corrosion that had always been the reason for plights and plunder.

The floods last year had shrunk the land to alarming 421 sq km on the outstanding 1,256 sq km in 1891. Majuli being the one of the worst affected regions of Assam, the situation to which likely to worsen with water resources department of the district and the Brahmaputra Board landing on a snooze-villa despite state CM’s notice to build in and complete the infrastructure within 23rd of March’2017.

Interestingly, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal  represents Majuli in the Assembly and now that the infrastructure of the district was long announced, the fate of the district lies in the hands of the working departments who are seemingly waiting for the big alarm!
