Guwahati/ 29th June’2017 (Prag News Desk): B Barooah Cancer Institute issued a press release on Wednesday stating that Assam has recorded the highest number of cancer cases this year.
” The cancer rates of the state are its highest in the last 4 years. The registration of new cancer patients were around 8,000 a year, whereas in 2017, the new registration of cancer patients in the hospital increased upto 12,000 in just six months.”
However, according to a press meet back in 2016, Assam government stated that over 90,000 cancer patients were detected in the state during the last five years in the state.
Here, B Barooah Cancer Institute alone recorded 86,405 cancer patients during the last five years.
As defined, cancer, also called malignancy, is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Symptoms vary depending on the type. Cancer treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery.
That is around 28 to 30 thousand new cancer patients have increased in the last year around the whole state.
Doctors at B Baroaah Cancer Institute mentioned that besides the usage of tobacco, exposure to pesticides… increased pollution and consuming fatty foods are the major reason behind the increased rates of Cancer spread in Assam.
