Guwahati/ 10th July’2017 (Prag News Desk): There has been no respite in the flood situation at Majuli.
Around ten villages are submerged in flood waters in the riverine island.
Prag News pushed off to the worst affected areas which are Malapindha, Maharichuk, Eri Chapari, Major Chapari, Barun Chitadarchuk areas.
Although, with little improvement in the weather, flood situation has been improved since yesterday. However, but due to continuous rainfall since Sunday, the water level of the Luit, Subansiri and Brahmaputra began to rise again.
Around 59 hectares of agricultural land and 4,029 families of 35 villages have been affected by floods, the number of animals affected in the current wave of floods is 17,014.
As per our sources, the surface communication has broken down in many areas, causing severe hardships to the settlers of the island, with severe crisis of drinking water besides shortage of food stuff in many areas.
Majuli is experiencing its first wave of floods this year. Incidentally, the island witnesses two to three waves of floods every year but the absence of an anti-flood regime is missed followed by destruction.
