Guwahati/ 11th July’2017 (Prag News Desk): CM Sonowal launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Kamrup(M) district & distributed free LPG connections to beneficiaries.
Speaking on the ocassion, Sonowal stated that, “Women and economically marginalised will get benefit from PMUY, which reflects PM’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.”
Government’s ‘Sabka Saath, SabkaVikas’ (collective efforts, inclusive growth) mantra alongwith the endorsement from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fount of the BJP on which Narendra Modi rode to power in 2014 on the plank of promoting development.
‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ is novel idea in itself as others too have tried to win over voters adopting similar strategies – succeeding sometimes (‘Garibi Hatao’) and failing on other occasions (‘India Shining’). Three years down the line, it’s time to take stock of the deliverables.
To justify ‘Sabka Vikas’, Modi promised doubling of farm income by 2022, as the sector is home to 47% of our workforce. However, growth in agricultural GDP in the three years after Modi assumed power was 1.7% which is less than half of the sector’s growth in the last three years of UPA-II at 3.6%.
However, Modi government failed to provide a single LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme in six states of Northeast India.
RTI replies till 8th May 2017, Uttar Pradesh released about 4,337,706 connections around 75 districts under the PMUY.
RTI shared a total of 21.933 million connections had been released in the whole country under PMUY.
