At least 5 killed in a massive landslide in Bangladesh
Guwahati/ 21st July’2017 (Prag News Desk): At least five were killed and one missing during a massive landslide at Chittagong in Bangladesh on Friday.
Police officials said all death were family members whose house was hit by landslide.
Five bodies were recovered by the officials as landslide hit the remote hilly area of Sitakunda due to heavy rain.
After the massive landslides that took away the life of an entire family is due to illegal construction with unplanned urbanization as stated by the expert officials.
It has been seen nearby hundreds of families were migrated from other parts of the country due to natural disasters were settled illegally in the hills by unplanned construction.
Bangladesh meteorological office recorded of 378 mm rainfall in last 12 hours which is a sign of danger specially people who are living in the hilly areas.
In June 11, officials reported a statistics of 153 people who lost their life and hundreds were injured due to landslide which devastated large numbers of houses.
Officials mention that people should avoid in building construction in the hilly areas which is totally illegal.
