NCHAC employees without salary and now beaten awaits payback
Guwahati/ 26th July’2017 (Prag News Desk): No pay and life has came to an abrupt halt for the employees of NC Hills Autonomous Council Demanding past 9 months. Demanding fair and immediate payment, the Council employees lead out a protest rally in Haflong on Wednesday. The rally was backed by students’ organization and the families of the suffering employees.
Although what was intended to be a peaceful march of deserving paybacks, things got from worse to ugly during the visit of Assam Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on 17th July.
The police resorted to lathi charge and firing of tear gas shells on the picketeers which resulted into severe injuries. 10 persons were reportedly injured during the lathi-charge.
However, the assurance is sent forth by the Governor with no tentative time frame.
Incidentally, the Council of employees have sent a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Haso. Through the memorandum, received on behalf of the DC by the ADC, Dima Hasao. Here, the NC Hills Autonomous Council Employees’ Union led by its president P Hasnu has demanded immediate introspect into the July 17 incident.
The update which is followed by a counter statement that post stone pelting by the picketers present, the officials were bound to order lathi-charge. The investigation report is awaited as employees continue the strike. (Inputs shared by Daniel Langthasa.)
