Female referees appointed for FIFA Under-17
Guwahati/ 2nd October’2017 (Prag News Desk): Seven women officials were selected to operate referees in upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be held from October 6 in India. This is for the first time female referees were appointed in men’s tournament. FIFA have selected the best officials for the match from all around the world for the tournament. The joint preparation of combining men and women officials will give the best results and improvement in the tournament. FIFA Head of Refereeing Massimo Busacca said as we have worked with female officials last year and now we want work together with the women officials. The referees have arranged several seminars and host activities including theoretical and practical session for both men and women officials. Various game situations were practiced and discussed to achieve better results in FIFA U-17 World Cup.
AIFF have chosen 16 match officials to train with the 77 enlisted FIFA officials during their charge at the U-17 World Cup. AIFF Director Referees Goutam Kar was quoted by PTI as saying, “It’s a lifetime opportunity for the Indian match officials who are getting a massive chance to learn the nuances of officiating a match of the highest level. It’s the first of its kind of initiative by FIFA to include the host nation’s officials to boost their skills while learning from ones who are adjudged to be the best in the business.”
