Guwahati/ 9th September’2017 (Prag News Desk): While scrutinizing the bridge and road construction work of the previous government state PWD minister Parimal Suklabaidya today during Assembly revealed that at the time of Congress rule in the state,a project of constructing a bridge worth Rs 3.5 crore was sanctioned by the government for a particular individual.
Although the PWD minister did not reveal the name of the individual during assembly, but later talking to journalists he indicated that the bridge was sanctioned in Badarpur on the avenue leading to a politician’s house.
Indirectly pointing fingers towards the Congress government the minister said that he was puzzled as why the condition of the roads and bridges were in pathetic state during Congress rule.
Several MLAs were also seen expressing their disappointment over the projects sanctioned during the previous government.
Legislator Pabindra Deka said that he himself had laid the foundation of two road projects, the work on which projects were yet to start, thus putting him in an embarrassing position in his constituency.
Trying to put up a defence PWD minister and Congress MLA Ajanta Neog claimed that she had left a healthy legacy” in the department.
Earlier, in response to a question, the PWD minister said that he just got one working season which was not enough to bring about a transformation.
“Since February, we are not able to work due to heavy downpour. But once the weather permits, we will get down to work. We will ensure that not a single penny of the public is wasted,” he said.
He also shared that the PWD plans to build 1,000 bridges in the state in five years. Between 2016 to 2017, 237 wooden bridges were converted into concrete bridges, while this year the number stood at six.
