Guwahati/ 9th September’2017 (Prag News Desk): On the occasion of 91st birthday of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika people of Assam paid tribute through different programmes to the legend.
Assam Directorate of the Cultural Affairs yesterday held special programme in Rabindra Bhawan and Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra at Jalukbari as part of the celebration yesterday.
A number of cultural programmes were also held in different parts of the State with Bhupen Hazarika’s music as the central theme.
The programme named ‘Aha Jane Jane, Rong Kiniba Kune’, was inaugurated by Hrishikesh Goswami, press advisor of the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, where Musician Ramen Choudhury was felicitated by the organizers at Rabindra Bhawan.
Besides, the All Assam Students’ Union also celebrated the day with it’s annual event “Uddipna”, where a number of selected best singers of every college and university of the State performed Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s songs near his statue at Dighalipukhuri, after its president Dipanka Kumar Nath, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya inaugurated the event at 9:30 am.
Another event was organized by Pragati Shilpi Sangha at Uzanbazar Barowari, inaugurated by GMDA chairman Dhiren Baruah, where musician Ramen Baruah, social activist Ajoy Dutta, and artistes Dwipen Barua, JP Das, Jayanta Das and Pabitra Margherita were felicitated .
Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Mass Communication & Journalism, Cotton University also celebrated the day as their ‘Mass Communication Day’,where Cotton University Vice Chancellor Dr Bhabesh Chandra Goswami and faculty members were intoning some of the immortal numbers of Bhupen Hazarika.
