Guwahati/ 15th November’2017 (Prag News Desk):Mamoni Raisom Goswami was an assamese famous writer, poet, professor, scholar, was born in Guwahati on 14 November 1942. She was best known for her attempts to structure social change. She was popularly called as Mamoni Baideo. Her writings focused mainly on women and the cultural and political construct of the Assamese society. She was the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award (1983), the Jnanpith Award (2001) and Principal Prince Claus Laureate (2008). People in Assam remembered this eminent litterateur on her 73rd birth anniversary, organising various events.
Recalling her consistent attempt to bring change for underprivileged and downtrodden society of Assam, South East Asia Institute of Ramayana Research Centre arranged programmes among the inmates of Amar Ghor, an old-age home for women, and Snehalaya, an orphanage. Besides, residents of Amranga paid floral tribute to the writer on the premises of Umakanta Chandrakanta Goswami primary health centre.
