Director Shyam Benegal asked the government to prevent threats to filmmakers.
Guwahati/ 20th November’2017 (Prag News Desk): The Veteran director Shyam Benegal, asked the government to act against those threatening and intimidating Padmavati’s director and actors when being made publicly on national TV. He added that the makers of Padmavati were deferring the film’s release.
Benegal criticized and put question that when chief ministers and members of government adopt such an approach, what else will the administration do?
The Shri Rajput Karni Sena, leader of the protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film since January this year, has threatened to burn down any theatre that screens the film. Besides, the head of its Rajasthan unit has also threatened that the film’s leading actress Deepika Padukone’s nose should be cut off. Meanwhile Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, proposed Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, asking that the film not be released without “necessary changes”.
