Guwahati/18th December’2017 (Prag News Desk): Fire caught in a shop in Saki Naka area in Andheri (East), Mumbai killed at least 12 people, after it collapsed, officials said on Monday.
After four hours of rescue operations 12 dead bodies were pulled out of the rubble around 8 in the morning. The victims were declared dead on admission at Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar, unidentified. The two majorly injured have been admitted to hospital.
The shop, located in Makhariya Compound in Saki Naka, caught fire around 4.15am. Officials said the fire brigade received a call for help at 4.17am, after which three fire engines, four jumbo water tankers and an ambulance were rushed to the spot.
All the electric wirings and installations, and a stock of goods caught fire. However, the fire did not spread beyond an area of 60×30 feet in the ground-floor structure, and was estinguished in 30 minutes. About 10-15 people works there in the shop.
Some workers managed to run out and escape before the building collapsed, but many more people may trapped inside and the search operation is still going on, said an official.
A section of Khairani Road was blocked for vehicles, and police officials had diverted traffic to Andheri-Kurla Road.
