In a shocking and an embarrassing incident reported from the most reputed institution of Assam, the Deputy Registrar of Dibrugarh University has been slapped with Child labour by the Dibrugarh district administration, Labour department Childline along with the police who rescued a minor girl who was engaged as a domestic help at the residence of the Deputy Registrar (Administration) of Dibrugarh University.

The incident came into light when the Labour Department have been carrying on their operations against Child labour across Dibrugarh district from the past two months and during their operation, the department recovered many minors who were engaged as domestic helps in many residences as well as factories.

Based on a specific input, the officials raided the house of the Deputy Registrar, Parmananda Sonowal from where the department recovered the minor girl.

During the raid, a minor girl who was recovered from the Registrar’s House was found to be a resident of Roumari Kochari gaon and was brought in his house at least a year back to work as a domestic help.

Immediately after the girl was recovered from his house, the Childline took her custody and the labour department lodged an FIR at the Police Station. Sonowal was charged under sections of the Child Labour (Prohibition and regulation) Amendment Act, 2016.

The team following this, the team rescued two more minors from separate locations. Firstly, the team rescued a minor girl of Tezpur from the house of Usman Ali, a former Polytechnic employee.

Another minor boy was rescued from the house of Imran Hussain, who according to reports is an ONGC employee.
