The Asom Gana Parishad rejected Congress’ “Alternative Government” proposal in Assam and have even said that they with utterly retrospective mode have decided that they see no future with Congress.

It may be mentioned that few days back Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi had said that Congress is willing to support an alternative government if AGP and Bodoland People’s Party (BPF)-regional allies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam-take an initiative in this regard.

“If the AGP and BPF come out of the alliance, we can talk about forming a new alliance, government. First, the AGP-BPF needs to take a clear stand and only then an alternative can be discussed,’’ said Gogoi while addressing media here on Monday.

Congress MLA Abdul Khaleque also requested BJP MLAs like Binod Hazarika and Atul Bora to resign from BJP and join Congress in wake of the protests against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment), Bill 2016. The Congress MLA further requested all the parties of Assam to form an anti-BJP alliance.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday, during the mass hunger strike organized by All Assam Students; Union along with 28 indigenous organizations of the state, AGP leader, and State Minister Keshab Mahanta has reiterated that AGP will opt out of power if the Assam Accord is violated.
