Dibrugarh Police recovers demonetized currencies worth Rs 42 lakh

Guwahati:

Acting on a tip off, Dibrugarh police along with security forces launched a joint search operation at Gabharupothar region on Wednesday.

As per reports, two persons were arrested and recovered huge sums of demonetized currencies of old 500-1000 rupee notes worth Rs 42.32 lakh.

The arrested duo has been identified as Gautam Sahani and Srishti Hazarika.

The complete information on the huge finding is yet to be investigated by the Dibrugarh Police. Meanwhile the arrested duo is presently being interrogated by the Dibrugarh Police for further information on the entire issue.

PM Modi had declared demonetization on May 9 in the year 2016, following which people faced excessive trouble waiting outside ATMs and banks for the new currencies.

People carrying or having huge amount of old currencies either burnt them or threw the currencies in the water after fearing arrest on recovery of the old currencies in huge quantity.
