Sikh Community in Shillong face life threat

In the wake of reports of ongoing communal tension and violence ensuing in Shillong, the Sikh Community is facing threats to their lives.

The Punjab Government, headed by Amarinder Singh, has decided to send a four-member team to Shillong on Monday.

Four member team from Punjab to visit Shillong today

The delegation team will be led by Punjab jails minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati at around 12:50 pm and will then head towards Shillong.

As per Punjab government spokesperson, the team will make a ground assessment of the situation in the troubled areas and extended all possible help to the Sikh community in Meghalaya’s Shillong.

The team includes MPs Gurjit Aujla and Ravneet Bittu, and MLA Kuldip Singh Vaid as its members.

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has sought Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma’s cooperation in facilitating the team’s visit.

Sangma on Sunday stated that certain “outside forces” are involved in erupting a “communal riot-like situation” in the city.
