Supreme Court of India gives nod to release of Rajinikanth movie “Kaala”

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stall the release of Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala which is scheduled to hit theatres tomorrow.

A vacation bench comprising Justices AK Goel and Ashok Bhushan refused to entertain a plea by KS Rajashekaram, who sought an injunction against the release of the movie.

The petitioner has claimed that his copyright-protected work related to story scenes and songs were used by the producer of the movie without prior permissions.

The petitioner approached the apex court against the May 16 order of the Madras High court which has posted his plea against the release of the movie for hearing on June 16.

‘Kaala’ producer K Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya have filed petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking directions to the state government and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) for smooth release of the film.

‘Kaala’ is scheduled to be released worldwide on June 7 but the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce had said the film would neither be distributed nor screened in the state.

In the please, Dhanush who is Rajnikanth’s son-in-law, submitted that it is the fundamental right of the petitioners under the Constitution to exhibit the film.
