Abhijeet-Nilotpal’s statues in Kangthilangso might create communal tension

As voices for erecting Abhijeet-Nilotpal’s statues at Kangthilangso falls gain momentum across the state, the very idea of erecting statues of the two youths hailing from Guwahati who died in a mob lynching at Panjuri village near Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong, might only lead to communal clashes in the future.

The idea of erecting statues at Kangthilangso Falls in fact has been discussed at length by multiple leaders and eminent people of Assam belonging to various communities. Most of the people have expressed apprehensions that miscreants wanting to disrupt peace in Assam might harm the statues which might send a wrong signal to the people of Assam.

Retired IAS officer, JI Kathar has stated that erecting the statues at Kangthilangso will make them prone to miscreants who might tamper with the statues which in turn might flare up the dormant angst in the people after the heinous lynching incident. This might easily lead to a communal clash thus hampering the peace and tranquility of the state, he further said. Similar opinions were also voiced by Pro Talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta who turned up at Karbi Anglong in the aftermath of the incident.

Meanwhile, while addressing media persons in a press meet organized at Diphu on Monday, JI Kathar made a sensational allegation that some third party misled the two youths to visit the remote place after evening.
