After being accused of rape by a married woman, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Algapur MLA Md Nizam Uddin Choudhary has flown to Chennai on Monday morning, allegedly to avoid arrest.
Though the aides of the MLA claimed that the legislator has gone to Chennai for ‘diabetes treatment’, his men were seen carrying all important documents and belongings of the MLA, packing them up in a Scorpio and hurriedly leaving the MLA Hostel quarter (No 23) in Guwahati, few hours after the MLA himself left the place.
According to sources, the development took place after Shahid Ahmed Laskar, the husband of the wife, who too has been accused of abetting the act, was arrested from the LGBI Airport in Guwahati on Sunday while he was trying to catch a flight to Mumbai to evade arrest. It has been also alleged that the MLA had tried to help escape the husband and offered him a large amount.
Questions were being raised why the accused MLA is running scot-free and has not been interrogated by the Police, especially since the husband who had allegedly abetted the rape was arrested on Sunday.
The victim woman had earlier alleged that she was raped ‘thrice’ at Hailakandi Circuit House on May 19 by the AIUDF MLA. The woman had lodged an FIR (case no 529/18) at the Hailakandi Sadar Police Station on Friday against the MLA along with her husband.
The woman reportedly also mentioned in the IFR that “post the raping incident, the husband locked her in the house”. She further claimed that she somehow managed to “escape” from the house and lodge a complaint with the Hailakandi Police.
On the other hand, MLA Choudhary refuted the rape allegations and reportedly said that it is a “conspiracy by a section of jealous people to ruin his image”.
AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal, while speaking to media persons, expressed his support for the MLA alleging that it is a political conspiracy of a local AGP leader.
