Political firebrand Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi challenged Assam BJP leader Ranjit Dass to chant “Nathuram Godse Murdabad”.
While speaking at a public meeting on Monday at Amguri, demanding the withdrawal of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Gogoi said that he has “enough courage” to chant slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
“I have no qualms in chanting slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”. These slogans were first mentioned in a book titled Ananda Math (The Abbey of Bliss) by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. This book is synonymous with the struggle for Indian independence from the British Empire,” he said.
Gogoi further added, “But do Ranjit Dass has enough courage to chant slogans like “Nathuram Godse Murdabad”? I dare him to chant the slogan and only then I will do as he says in my meetings.”
Nathuram Vinayak Godse was a right-wing advocate of Hindu nationalism who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi on 30 January 1948. He shot Gandhi in the chest three times at point-blank range.
