40 Indian Journalists figured for surveillance through Pegasus Software

New Delhi: Over 40 Indian Journalists names have been figured in a leaked list of potential targets for surveillance by an unidentified agency using the Israel spy software Pegasus; moreover, the forensic tests confirmed that the phones of the journalists were successfully infected with the Pegasus malware, as per the report of The Wire.

However, the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology refused the report of surveillance upon the journalist.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology said, “The allegation regarding government surveillance on specific people has no concrete basic basis or truth associated with it whatsoever. In the past, similar claims were made regarding the use of Pegasus on Whatsapp by the Indian state. These reports have no factual basis and were categorically denied by all parties, including WhatsApp in the Indian Supreme Court.”

The Pegasus software is apparently sold to governments around the world by NSO group an Israeli company, the Company specializes in hacking devices.

As per ‘The Week,’ the journalist who was targeted included correspondent and the writers from the Hindustan Times, The Hindu, India Today, Indian Express and Network 18.
