Digital desk: A 39-year-old man died in Telangana’s Mancherial district after his throat was slashed by a glass-coated manjha hanging from a tree, reports said.
According to reports, the shocking incident occurred when Bheemaiah (39), a labourer from Old
Mancherial town, was traveling on his bike with his wife, Sharda, to their home on January 15.
"While my husband was at work, he cut his finger, and we went to the doctor for first aid. Following it when we were returning home, he abruptly stopped the vehicle after crossing the bridge. I saw his neck was twisted in manja and he was bleeding from the throat." Sharda said.
Further, Sharda pulled the rope of the kite from around his throat with the help of other people. However, he lost a lot of blood, the reports said.
Following that, Bheemaiah was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
A similar incident took place last year in Pune, where a biker’s throat was slashed by a kite string. The victim eventually filed a police complaint under section 337 of the Indian Penal Code (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) against unknown perpetrators.
Every year, "Manja," a kite string which is covered with powdered glass, harms not only human life but also birds and animals. However, kite producers continue to sell it despite several bans on its manufacture and sale.
During the
festival season, notably in Makar Sankranti, its sales remain at a peak point.
