Assam government to appoint 20,000 teachers by May: Ranoj Pegu
Digital Desk: On Thursday, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that the state government is dedicated to appointing at least 20,000 teachers by May 10 of this year.

"The state government is committed to appointing 20,000 teachers in the state by May 10 this year. It is under the state government's 'Mission 1 lakh jobs' initiative," Pegu stated.

The Minister noted that advertising for all positions has been allocated and that appointments will start as soon as the merit list is released.

"There are vacancies at various levels, including Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary, and Post Graduate teachers, as well as Assistant teachers, totaling over 20,000 positions. All of these positions have been advertised. Document verification for teachers in lower primary, upper primary, and secondary schools is currently underway. The merit list will be released after it is completed, and the government will begin making appointments. It is part of the Assam government's 'Mission 1 lakh jobs' initiative, which would be accomplished by May 10 this year "Pegu remarked.

The Minister said that the government has started executing the Centre's New Education Policy, which was issued in 2020.

"The state's new education policy has already begun to be implemented. The new education policy is a wide framework for a new educational system. For example, we have previously announced that our Directorate of School Education would be divided into two levels of education: elementary and secondary. In addition, we will begin delinking Class 11 and 12 from colleges in 2022-23, and colleges will solely offer degree and post-graduate courses, "he stated.

Ranoj Pegu stated that the government has set up a panel from the Social Welfare, Education, Health, and Tribal Affairs departments to oversee pre-primary education and the health and nutrition of kids.

"We've started our new education policy, which includes a multidisciplinary approach, even at the higher secondary level.
The procedure has begun, and it will take a long time to complete in stages, "he stated.

The union cabinet permitted the NEP in July 2020 to universalize education from pre-school to secondary school. The policy even strives to promote an individual to study one or more specialized regions of interest in-depth, as well as to develop character, scientific temper, creativity, the spirit of service, and 21st-century capabilities across a variety of fields, including sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.
