    Digital Desk: There is an air stringing high for the upcoming assembly elections 2022 in India. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss the names of candidates for the upcoming Goa assembly elections 2022.

    Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state BJP president Sadanand Shet Tavanade will attend the meeting.

    The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to field its nominees in 38 of the 40 Assembly seats in Goa for the February 14 election.

    The BJP has been holding discussions with its core representatives to finalize the names of the candidates. Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanavis, the party's in-charge of Goa elections, has held meetings attended by the BJP's state unit president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and chief minister Pramod Sawant, among others.

    On Friday, a senior party official said that two constituencies – Benaulim and Nuvem will not field any nominee on its symbol in the Goa Assembly elections 2022. 

    After the meeting on Sunday, the saffron party is expected to make a formal announcement about the candidates after the party's parliamentary committee approves the list.

    The Election Commission met the Union Health Secretary on Saturday. They have met to decide whether to extend the ban on public rallies for the upcoming assembly elections in 2022 in five states. 

    Along with announcing the elections dates, EC had put a restriction on public rallies in the five elections-oriented states. This decision has been taken to limit the surge of Covid-19 in the nation. 

    Assembly elections 2022 in five states will be held in seven stages from February 10 to March 7. The election in Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Goa will be retained in a single phase on February 14.

    Meantime, voting in Manipur will be held in two stages on February 27 and March 3. Uttar Pradesh will carry out its voting phase between February 10 and March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
