    New Delhi: Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 34 candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.

    At a joint press conference here, party general secretary Tarun Chugh said that 12 candidates on the list are from farmer families, eight tickets have been given to Dalit community members, and 13 tickets were given to the candidates from the Sikh community.

    “12 farmer’s families received tickets, 8 members of the SC community received tickets, and 13 from Sikhs community received tickets. Doctors, lawyers, athletes, farmers, youngsters, women, and former IAS officers are among those on the list.” Chugh explained.

    The BJP is battling in the Punjab election with the Punjab Lok Congress, led by Capt Amarinder Singh, and the Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa (Sanyukt).

    Reportedly, Arvind Khanna is contesting from Sangrur, Manoranjan Kalia is contesting from Jalandhar Central, and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi is competing from Ferozepur City.

    Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Punjab BJP in-charge Dushyant Gautam also attended the press conference.
