Digital Desk: China on Thursday slammed India's recent decision to ban 54 more Chinese mobile apps due to security and privacy concerns, claiming that the measure has harmed Chinese enterprises' legitimate interests.
Tencent Xriver, Nice Video Baidu, Viva Video Editor, and gaming app Garena Free Fire Illuminate were among the 54 apps prohibited by India on Monday.
The Chinese apps are said to get a variety of key permissions and exposed user information. Moreover, according to Indian sources, the obtained real-time data is exploited and transmitted to servers in a hostile country. As a result, the IT ministry has issued interim directives for the shutdown of 54 apps.
China's Ministry of Commerce responded to New Delhi's decision by urging India to improve its business environment and treat all international investors, including Chinese enterprises, fairly, transparently, and without discrimination.
According to Commerce Ministry spokesman
Gao Feng, the relevant Indian authorities have adopted several steps to repress Chinese enterprises and their goods in India, severely harming their lawful rights and liberties.
"China raised a grave alarm about all this," Gao was cited as saying by official media in China.
China and India, according to Gao, are inseparable neighbors and significant commercial and economic partners. The bilateral trade volume between China and India reached USD 125.7 billion in 2021, up 43 % each year.
"The two nations' trade and investment cooperation is strong and has a great deal of potential." "It is hoped that the Indian side will be able to take meaningful steps to preserve the strong growth momentum of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, which will benefit both nations," he said.
After a big crackdown against Chinese apps in 2020, Monday's action is the first of its kind this year.
The indian government banned 59 Chinese-linked apps, including the popular TikTok and UC Browser, in June 2020, citing threats to the country's sovereignty, integrity, and security. The ban was imposed in response to Chinese aggression in eastern Ladakh.
The government banned 47 more Chinese apps that were clones or versions of the earlier blocked apps.
