    Covid-19 Pandemic: Schools Reopen From Feb 1, No Night Curfew
    Digital Desk: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to reopen schools for students of Classes 1-12 from February 1 and will also lift the night curfew imposed from 10 pm to 5 am.

    On January 30, the administration also lifted the total lockdown (Sunday).

    The decisions were made at a meeting presided by Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin, who was joined by Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, and other officials.

    "Chief Minister M K Stalin has authorized some relaxations in the state, which will be in effect from February 1 to 15, in consideration of students' futures, people's livelihoods, jobs, and the economy." the statement reads.

    Schools for children in grades 1-12 will begin on February 1. The rest of the institutes, universities, and training centres, excluding the colleges that function as Covid care centres, can begin operations on February 1.

    Gatherings of a social, cultural, or political will continue to be banned. During the urban local body elections, people have been requested to observe Covid-related instructions published by the state electoral commission.

    On the other hand, playschools and nursery schools will continue with the restrictions. Moreover, government and private-sector exhibitions and cultural activities are prohibited. In hotels, restaurants, and mess halls, 50% seating capacity is permitted.

    As per the statements, a maximum of 100 people will be allowed to attend weddings, but only 50 people will be allowed to attend funerals. Customers in textile and jewellery showrooms have been asked not to exceed 50% of the total capacity.

    Clubs, gyms, yoga studios, theatres, indoor auditoriums, beauty salons, and spas can all function at 50% capacity. Amusement parks, excluding water sports, can also operate at 50% capacity.

    On Thursday, Tamil Nadu registered 28,515 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 32,52,751. The death toll rose to 37,412, with 53 deaths. In the last 24 hours, 28,620 cases have been recovered, leaving 2,13,534 active cases in the state. The current positivity rate in the state is 19.42 percent.

    The virus infected 5,591 people in Chennai, the most of any district, followed by Coimbatore (3,629), Tiruppur (1,877), Chengalpattu (1,696), Salem (1,431), and Erode (1,431). (1,314).
