    Covid-19 Tally: India Reported An All-time High With 317,532 Cases
     

    Digital Desk: India's daily covid-19 tally increased substantially on Thursday, with 317,532 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 38,218,773, according to the Union health ministry report.

    Moreover, on Thursday, 491 fatalities were reported in the country, with 223,990 individuals recovering from the deadly virus.

    The overall number of fatalities and recoveries stands at 487,693 and 35,807,029, respectively. The number of active covid-19 tally is approaching two million, accounting for 4.83 percent of all cases.

    According to the health ministry, the case count on Thursday was the highest in 249 days.

    On Wednesday, roughly 283,000 new cases, 441 fatalities, and 188,157 recoveries were reported across the country.

    The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reported on Thursday that the overall number of tests conducted in the country is over 700 million, with 1,935,180 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

    With 9,287 cases of the fast-spreading variety found so far, the country's Omicron count is approaching 10,000, a hike of 3.63 percent since Wednesday.

    In the last 24 hours, more than 7.33 million vaccine doses were administered to eligible beneficiaries, bringing the total immunization coverage to nearly 1.6 billion.

    According to the health ministry, the Centre has delivered more than 1.58 billion vaccine doses to states and Union Territories (UTs) through its free-of-charge channel and direct state procurement category.

    "More than 127.2 million covid vaccines are available with the States/UTs to be administered." the ministry added.

    According to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, the number of daily covid-19 cases will peak on January 23 in the country but will stay below the 400,000-mark.  

    It said that Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata have already reached their apex.
