Sources quoted that the retailers are now figuring shutting down pumps is more profitable than selling petrol and diesel at rates that have been frozen for 136 days.

Digital Desk: Diesel prices in India have risen by about Rs 25 per litre for bulk customers, as international oil prices have raised by nearly 40% due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to reports. However, the retail price of diesel remains intact.

In March 2022, petrol pump sales increased by a fifth as bulk users, such as bus operators and shopping mall companies, purchased diesel in retail rather than the common practice of ordering directly from oil companies due to which private retailers such as Nayara Energy, Jio-bp, and Shell have gone out of business.

Sources quoted that the retailers are now figuring shutting down pumps is more profitable than selling petrol and diesel at rates that have been frozen for a record 136 days.

With the latest increase of diesel prices for bulk customers, one litre of fuel will now cost Rs 122.05 in Mumbai, a rise of Rs 25 from the previous price of Rs 94.14 in India's financial capital.

Diesel prices in the national capital of Delhi have risen by Rs 25 to Rs 115 per litre for bulk customers. The fuel is currently priced at Rs 86.67 per litre at the petrol pump for regular users.

Notably, on November 4, oil marketing companies last updated the diesel and petrol prices. Although global oil prices have surged, there has been no increase in fuel prices since then.

Previously, it was expected that oil marketing companies would resume daily price changes for petrol and diesel beginning March 10, 2022, the day of the counting of votes for five state elections.
