Guwahati: With covid restrictions in place, the world welcomed the New Year in a cautious manner owing to the covid threat. Primary school students across Assam will be returning to their schools for the first time today since the pandemic landed in our proximity.

Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier announced the reopening of schools amid a dip in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, where the recovery rate is rising daily.

The Assam State Government has released an extensive list of SOPs for the opening of the schools. According to the SOP, lower primary schools will open for classes on alternate days for all classes from I to V.

The SOP further mandates the issued guidelines for government and private institutions equally. It states that schools will open at 9 AM and end at 1:45 pm. Mid-day meals in government schools are also mentioned to be provided between 12:15 to 12:45 pm.
