India's Omicron tally rises to 21 with 17 new cases

New Delhi: India's Omicron tally has risen to 21, with 17 new positive cases. Seventeen new cases were detected on Sunday alone.

Most of those who tested positive either came back from African nations or were in contact with such people. According to officials, several connections of the new cases are under scrutiny and have been quarantined.

The central government has set stringent travel constraints on people coming back from abroad, particularly from 'at risk' nations.

The rise in the Omicron tally has further sealed India's plans to restart international travel from December 15.

India is alert to the positive number of cases with the Omicron variant. The Omicron is supposed to carry more mutations than any other coronavirus variant.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Friday said that the first Omicron patient had "escaped" from the state after presenting a negative Covid test report from a private lab.
