    Digital Desk: Congress party in Manipur has promised to appeal government of India to remove the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA). Additionally, it promised to protect Manipur's unity and integrity.

    Additionally, Congress has vowed to compensate journalists who have been wrongfully arrested and preserve the rights of linguistic and religious minorities.

    The party has told unemployed youths that their higher age limits will be relaxed for three years due to the covid pandemic.

    On Friday, the party presented a manifesto for two-phased elections. Polling in the first round will take place on February 27 in 38 assembly seats, and polling in the second phase will take place on March 3 in 22 assembly constituencies.

    In addition, the party has promised to form a food and necessary commodities firm and to develop a cultural diversity policy.

    Further, the Congress, which leads a six-party alliance, has committed to form a Manipur regiment. The party also promised to establish a governmental forest development corporation and to regulate minimum wages for private-sector healthcare workers.

    In the 60-member assembly, Congress is contesting 58 seats, while its allies are contesting two.

    In 2017, Congress was voted out of power. The party has vowed to build a state energy policy for Manipur, as well as a mountain economy, for the integrated development of the land and people of the hill districts.

    Congress also vowed to construct super-speciality sports infrastructure and regulate the value-added tax on diesel and gasoline. It also promised to come up with Manipur Staff Selection Commission.

    The manifesto stated that it would ensure that the state is free of power shortages to attract half a million tourists every year.

    Further, the manifesto vowed to support 5000 micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) per year, focusing on local food processing industries.
