"Let them live the way they wish to," Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu said of society's targeting of girls, including on the topic of hijab.
Digital Desk: A reporter asked Sandhu about her thoughts on the hijab issue in a video that has gone popular on social media. The film is part of a celebration of the Miss Universe 2021's homecoming, which took place on March 17.
Before she could react to the question, the organizer interjected and advised the reporter to refrain from asking any political questions instead of focusing on her path, achievements, and how she has served as an inspiration to others.
"Let Harnaaz say the same things," the reporter said.
The Chandigarh-based model then expressed her displeasure with how girls are singled out in society.
"Honestly, why do you constantly go for the ladies?" You're still aiming for me. Even when it comes to hijab, girls are singled out. Allow them (girls) to live their lives as they like, allow her to arrive at her destination, and allow her to fly; those are her wings; do not cut them. "Cut your wings if you have to (cut someone's wings)," Sandhu said.

She also requested that the reporter question her about her path, the challenges she has overcome, and her recent accomplishment at a beauty contest.
The petitions seeking permission to wear hijab in classrooms of educational institutions were recently dismissed by a three-judge bench of the Karnataka high court, which stated that headscarf is not an essential religious practice and the uniform dress rules is to be followed in educational institutions where it has been prescribed.
