Mumbai will be Unlocked by the end of February: Mayor Kishori Pednekar

Digital Desk: Good News for the Mumbaikars, as the covid-19 restriction in Mumbai to be lifted by the end of this month, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar said on Tuesday.

The decision to lift the covid-19 restriction came after the financial capital reported a steady decline in the number of covid-19 cases for the past several days in a row.

The Mayor Kishori Pednekar said, “It is a good news for the Mumbaikars, as the covid-19 restriction will be lifted by the end of this month, but it is mandatory to use the mask in public places and to observe the social distance.”

On Monday, 356 new covid cases were reported in Mumbai, with five deaths, the lowest daily rise since December 21, 2021. On Sunday, Mumbai recorded 536 cases of covid -19, with three people dying due to the infection. Thane also recorded a decline in covid cases, with the infection total dropping to two digits (50) after 41 days, according to an official of the municipal civic body.

During the third wave of the pandemic, Mumbai saw a sharp increase in daily covid infections, which has since declined dramatically, according to the BMC statistics.

According to BMC data, 29,863 samples were examined on Sunday, compared to over 40,000 in Mumbai.

In Mumbai, the daily number of covid cases decreased in February. On February 2, the city recorded 1,121 covid cases and 10 deaths; the subsequent days’ totals have remained below 900.

Dr Shasshank Joshi, a member of the state’s task team, said that Omicron has proven less severe but more contagious.

Joshi further asserted that about 95% of individuals in the city have been fully vaccinated and that the majority of them have been exposed to the virus, predicting that covid cases will decline soon.

Further, he urged the people to stay vigilant due to crowding and poor ventilation and recommended wearing a mask for a few more months.

According to BMC data, Mumbai is now free of containment zones in slums and chawls, with only one building remaining shut to prevent infection transmission. Only 40 people have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, according to the BMC, and 10 of them are on oxygen.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra saw 6,436 Covid infections and 24 deaths in a single day, the lowest total since December. On Monday, the number of active cases in the state fell to 1 lakh. At the moment, there are 5,139 active covid cases in Mumbai.
